Be all you can be, be a crime scene cleaner
10.27.09 (11:03 pm)   [edit]
If you have been watching television lately you have been seeing reports on how many people are becoming crime scene cleaners as way to earn a six figure income.  Although this may seem easy to do at first, because of how the industry of crime scene cleanup has been glorified by newspapers and other media publications as well as movies and tv shows, one is usually not in this business long before they realize the real horrific and traumatic situations a biohazard crime scene cleaner will encounter while working in the remediation business.

Most people stop doing crime scene cleanup in their first month, usually due to lack of proper training and preparation for what they will have to deal with but also simply because they realize that its not a get rich quick industry and that the work is hard, dangerous, and the little reward usually comes from just knowing you are helping a family in a very bad situation out.  If you are a person considering working as a crime scene clean up agent, you should strongly consider riding with a company or crew of crime scene cleaner requesting a training manual or tape that can help begin your understanding of the real cleanup industry.  Don't allow movies and tv series to dramatize or romanticize the business you may be getting a job in.

Working as a crime scene tech will allow you the opportunity to gain first hand knowledge of how biohazard cleanup situations should be handled, what procedures with grieving families will be as well as how to deal with waste disposal that may be involved in the clean up.  It is an industry that takes an immense amount of time and commitment.  Many crime scene cleaners will be on the road for hours a day going from one trauma to the next dealing with everything from blood to meth lab cleanup and everything in between such as mold, asbestos, tear gas and even hoarding.
